A Message From Thomas “TJ” McNamara Chairman and CEO, Tradingo.com……

Happy Holidays to all.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members and the staff at tradingo, for making tradingo.com one of the fastest growing sites on the internet.

With this year almost over, it’s time to for us to start planning for our national launch in 2010, and I must say it is looking very promising indeed. We have received a lot of great feedback since on inception in July of this year, from our customers and that feedback has proven invaluable in providing us with ways of further improving our design and additional services to you.  Together, we have created the most incredible and exciting trading, buying, selling and social community on the web.

Armed with this new knowledge we have made several changes to the site over the last six months and we are excited about a number of new tradingo.com features and storefronts that will be implemented in the coming year. These new features will surpass your expectations not only with their aesthetics and ease of usability but also with the fact that our tradingo.com members will be the first on the web to use these innovative features.

For tradingo.com, our commitment to our customers remains unchanged; we will continue to strive to provide you with a superior level of customer service, personal attention, and an online marketplace that is second to none.

So in this time of giving and embracing the holiday spirit, tradingo.com will not charge any transaction fees on our member’s items in the main area of the site for a limited time.

Our CEO just crafted our mission statement and I think it sums up the tradingo philosophy of doing business very well:

Is Barter Illegal? And What About The IRS?

Judging from the large volume of mail we’re getting, there is a popular misconception out there that bartering is illegal. Bartering is not illegal, but when it comes to the reporting of barter income the waters get a little murky. The statute says that you must report as income the fair market value of goods or services received. If that sentence made you raise an eyebrow with its ambiguity, you’re not alone. I’m still trying to get a good answer on this and my tax attorney will be getting back to me, but in the meantime I want to let you know that the IRS is concentrating not on individuals trading items, but the “Barter Exchange” sites such as tradebank. Basically a barter exchange is any organization with members or clients that contract with each other (or with the barter exchange) to jointly trade or barter property or services. In the case of tradebank, services are credited with a dollar amount, or banked, then put on account. The banked credits are then used to purchase goods or services from other tradebank members. This sort of transaction must be reported to the IRS (normally on Schedule C) at the end of the year.

I’ll be getting more information from my tax professionals this week so stay tuned.

Complete Tradingo Text Tutorial

Welcome to the Tradingo! Online Tutorial! Check out the guide below to get started trading, buying and selling!

First, sign up. It’s Free.
Upload stuff to trade to your closet-that’s what we at tradingo call the area that holds the stuff you want to trade. Go to the toolbar in the right hand corner, and click on the double arrow icon:

Name the item, describe it, tag it, rate the condition (1=worst, 5=best), and add a picture of the item if you have one (items with pictures trade and sell faster). If you’re a TradingoPro member, you can add a price to the item if you want to sell it (more on that in a minute)

Once you’ve uploaded your stuff, you’ll need to know about the tool bar (in the upper right hand corner of the page:

And the Navigation bar:

Next, check out what people have for trade:

See something you like? Propose a trade:
propose

You’ll get a message sent to your email letting you know if your trade was
accepted or rejected.
If you see an item with a price:

And you want to buy it, click on the picture of the item, and you’ll see this:

Either offer an item to trade, or, if you want to purchase the item, click the “buy it now” button and you’ll be taken to your PayPal account (you’ll need a PayPal account to buy items on tradingo) where you can transfer funds into the sellers account.


If you want to sell your items, you’ll need to sign up for a TradingoPro Account:


Before you can upgrade to a TradingoPro Account, you’ll need to set up a PayPal™ account if you don’t already have one. Once you’ve upgraded your account to TradingoPro, just add the email address you used to sign up for PayPal™ to your “My Account” area-its at the bottom of the page:

When that’s done, you’ll notice there’s a new field in the upload section, the “Price IT” field. This allows you to add a “Buy It Now” price to your items.


Now, other Tradingo members can either buy your item or offer an item for trade:

If they buy your item, you’ll get an email notification and the funds will be deposited into your ebay account. Don’t forget to send the item out within 24 hours.

New Features Added!

Sorry for not posting for awhile, but we’ve been working on the beta release of tradingo.com since the beginning of July, and its looking good. We’ve fixed some bugs and added new features like: Edit/delete items for trade, added a more visible button for uploading items, and tweaked some of the code to make it run faster. We’ll be adding the  ability to buy and sell at the very end of this month along with user feedback so tradingo users can rate each other on the trading experience.

The press has started to take notice of tradingo. If you haven’t already, check out the article in MetroPulse. The url is: http://tinyurl.com/metropulse. Also, tradingo will be on WBIR TVs “Newsmakers” segment at 5:30 pm on Monday July 20th.  We’ve got some other stuff in the pipeline, but we’ll let you know when it gets confirmed.

Tradingo Beta is Live!

Finally! The tradingo beta test version is now up! So what does that mean? The beta version of a software release is considered to be a preview. It has all the standard features, but is not yet ready for wide release. During this point, we will collect feedback from users about tradingo.com’s usability-what you like and what you think should be changed-before tradingo.com’s wide release ( we already found a bug-DO NOT click the “remember me” button on the login and password screen-you’ll be locked out if you do-we’re working on that right now).
Go to tradingo.com and register (if you registered previously, you’ll have to register again-everything was reset) and start using the site to trade your stuff! If anything breaks, behaves strangely, or if you can think of ways to make it better, contact me, Scott Scheinbaum, at scott@tradingo.com and I’ll get back to you within a day, probably sooner.
We’ll be working on the site and adding the following features over the next couple of weeks: Messaging, Friend requests,Buying and Selling, Create Groups, Email notification of trades, user feedback, and editing your posted items, We’ll be letting you know about that via FaceBook updates (http://www.facebook.com/wall.php?id=36884159276), our twitter feed (www.twitter.com/tradingo), and email. What is tradingo.com?

I’ve been getting a lot of mail asking “what is this tradingo.com thing” . Well, Tradingo is a place where you’ll be able to trade just about anything with anybody in the country. Would you rather sell your item? No problem! Tradingo lets you buy and sell, too. And you won’t have to fool with an auction lasting for days-just set your price, post it to the site, then watch it sell.

In addition, you’ll be able to search and browse thousands of items, comment on people’s items for trade, and chat with your friends, And for a limited time, all trades are free-that’s right all trades for free! All you have to do is sign up, take some pictures of what you have to trade, and then see what other people want to offer for your stuff. It’s the easiest way to trade your stuff on the web, and its fun! We’ll be putting up the beta in the next few days, so stay tuned!
